Humane societies were created to prevent cruelty to animals and to give them a good home while going through the adoption process. I never really contacted a humane society when I had found the lost pets becuase I did not know they would accept just any animal. At times I called the police station to see if any pets had been reported missing. That is a very good way to find the owners because a police man comes to your house, looks up the tag information on his computer and within minutes the owner is contacted. Yet, not all animals have a tag. This is when you would take them to a local hunane society.

You always have different ways to find your pets if they went missing.  I always have a recent picture of my dog. Some people insert small microchips into the dogs to track their location if they ever went missing. I would say that this and the tags will guarantee your pet gets returned to you. Yet, there are even more ways to ensure your pet will be returned to you, but first you have to take action. There are many different websites that can register your pet and increase its chance to be found, if it ever got lost. One website is wiskr.com. If my dog ever went missing, I would not be happy. She is always there to watch TV or take naps with me.
